Benefits of Blinds in a Self Build Home

A Self Build is often a dream for many homeowners as you can build the home you have always wanted, perfectly meeting your style and needs. It can also be a stressful process, with so many things to organise it is easy to forget important parts of your home.

One thing people forget is to consider what Blinds or Shutters they may wish to have on the windows of the various rooms of their home. There are many reasons why it is important to have Blinds or Shutters;

Light Control

Quite possibly the first benefit of blinds you will think of is control over light. In the evening you want a dark peaceful sanctuary closed off from the world so that you can sleep. Most of the day you will likely want lots of natural light entering your home. Sometimes during the day you will want a break from the light, you may be feeling unwell, or the glare could be getting in your way.

Blinds and Shutters give you full control over the light entering your home. Some blind types such as Venetian or Aura even give you options to allow some light, or allow light and block glare. When you are designing your self build home you have the chance to control everything, including the light.

Temperature Control

Many people do not actually realise that blinds and shutters can help control the temperature inside your home. This is because they can block out sunlight, preventing your home from heating up too much in warm weather. They can also act as insulation over your windows during cold weather, helping to trap heat in.

So rather than spending lots of money on high-tech heating or cooling systems in your self build, you can use a much simpler method that will also save you plenty on heating or electric bills trying to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Privacy

When you have finished your self build you will have a space that is yours to relax in comfort. The last thing you want is to feel exposed to nosey people from outside. Whether it is neighbours, dog walkers, or perhaps even unwanted guests, keep them out with blinds and shutters.

With options such as Café Style Shutters you can ensure privacy even when you may still wish to allow some light into the room.

Style

One of the best things about a self build is that you are creating a blank canvas that you can use to create your style of home from scratch. Blinds and shutters are a great way to implement your style on your home. With so many different types that can use different materials, fabrics, patterns, shapes, and colours, you have so much choice.

Whether you want to make your windows stand out or pick something that will complement the rest of your décor, there are many options to choose from including options such as motorisation. Our Design Consultants will also support you through making this decision, providing samples and advice so that you can pick the perfect blinds or shutters for your new home.

Blindspace

For regular blinds or shutters, you don’t have to rush if you would rather focus on getting your self build completed before moving on to the interior design. The one exception is if you are wanting to use Blindspace!

Blindspace is where your blinds are built into the head of the recess. This means that you do not actually see the headrail of the blind and it is completely hidden when opened. This is perfect if you want to be able to see the entire window and allow as much natural light through as possible, whilst still being able to have the benefits of blinds.

If you want Blindspace then you would need to order your blinds before your walls are plastered so that the blinds can be worked into the design. If you are in the planning stages and considering this, feel free to contact us and we can discuss Blindspace today.
